A Wall.E Moment

4 01 2009

So, I recently splurged and bought myself a copy of Wall.E on DVD. It is a movie that I did go see in the theatre, but, unfortunately, I ended up falling asleep. Since purchasing it, however, I have seen it 3x and have come to love it. Its funny and sweet and extremely sentimental in its depiction of love and the human spirit.

It got me thinkng though. Have you ever had a Wall.E moment? A brief moment in time when you discovered how truly nuts people on planet Earth are when it comes to the conveniences of modern day technology? I have when I think about emailing a co-worker who is right down the hall from your office or shopping online for things like clothes and groceries. Can you think of more examples?

Zero Emission No Noise: A Canadian Hidden Treasure

7 10 2008

I was looking around YT for Rick Mercer vids and came across this story from last season (I believe).

Its a Canadian-made electric car which like the name states has been tested to ensure zero emissions and is completely silent while running. Only the click as you turn the key tells you that the car is actually running and operational… very cool…. very weird…. and totally Canadian, but there is, however, a catch for Canadian wannabe owners… this car has not been fully legalized in Canada.

At the time that the this story was made the only province that had legalized this car was British Columbia. This is because the ruling of legalizing this car is up to the individual provincial governments and not at the federal level. To me this is a shame. I would have thought that this would be a worthwhile environmental initiative for Harper to jump on board with.

Is This Our Future?

10 09 2008

By definition “haptics” is the enhanced world of virtual reality. What this means to you, as the potential user, is that the computer generated world of VR is experienced not only by the user’s hearing and sight, but by the use of all the user’s senses. Can you imagine being in a virtual bakery and smelling fresh bread wafting from the oven? Mmmm. Yum!!

There are all kinds of people exploring VR technology and the Nintendo Wii has brought us all one step closer.

Editors Note: I will try to make these entries a little more in-depth from now on, but bare with me as I try to come out of my writer’s block.
